Throughout the years I have done many things to my hair. Dyed, bleached, stripped, teased, etc. I thought it could be helpful to some people if I shared what products I love and certain tips & tricks that have helped keep my hair in good condition!
PRODUCTS
- Ion Moisture Solutions Moisturizing Shampoo: This does exactly what the name says. Plus it smells great!
- BigSexyHair Big Volume Shampoo: This is my go-to volumizing shampoo.
- L'oreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm: By far the best drugstore conditioner/hair mask I've tried…and I've tried a lot!
- Redken All Soft Conditioner: Seriously leaves my hair SO silky!
- It's a 10 Miracle Daily Conditioner: This stuff truly is a miracle (along with every other It's a 10 products that I've tried) !
- It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product: I use this miracle product after showering and towel drying my hair. I've forgotten to put it in my hair a few times and could really tell the difference.
- Dove Thermal Replenishment Spray: This is my favorite heat protectant only because of the smell (I also like the Tresseme one). On the rare occasion that I use heat on my hair, I'll use this before.
- It's a 10 Miracle Shine Spray: I got this product a few days ago and it was love after first use. I use this when my hair is dry and it makes my hair SO soft, shiny, and frizz free!
- Macadamia Healing Oil Spray: I also use this product on dry hair but only my very ends. I don't know if I agree that it 'heals' my hair but it definitely helps mend it and add moisture for a while.
- L'oreal Boost It High Lift Creation Spray: This stuff is serious! If you like a lot of volume and want a product to help you set a tease, this is for you. It's also pretty cheap & easy to find!j
- Johnson's Baby Powder: I have thin hair with roots that get oily pretty fast but I don't like to wash my hair everyday (I'll explain later in this post why) so I've been on the hunt for a miracle dry shampoo. Before dry shampoos got super popular in the last 2 years, I always used baby powder because it's great at soaking up oils. To this day I have no found a better 'dry shampoo' and I've tried a lot.
- John Frieda Luxurious Volume Hairspray: I rarely use hairspray and haven't found a "holy grail" one yet but this is what I use when I do use hairspray. If you know of a great hairspray, lemme know!
- The Wet Brush: THE MOTHER EFFIN WET BRUSH. Okay if you have hair & haven't bought the Wet Brush yet, stop reading this and go get it! When I first heard about this magical brush I didn't understand what could make it so great…and I still don't! I don't know what kind of evil magic had to happen to create this brush, but I'm okay with what ever had to go down because this brush is freaking amazing. It detangles my hair so effortlessly while leaving it frizz free and shiny! All I can say is you have to try it to understand.
- Spornette Teasing Brush: I use this little tool when I tease my hair, which is quite often. I was using a teasing comb, which worked, but this teases my hair so much faster and seems to be less damaging. Also, I've noticed my tease holds a lot better when I use this.
TIPS & TRICKS
- Don't wash your hair every time you shower! Your scalp produces natural oils that are good for your hair. If you're constantly stripping them everyday, your hair isn't getting as my nourishment as it could be. I often go 3 or 4 days with out washing my hair. Now, this does NOT mean I don't shower. I just avoid washing my hair when I do shower everyday that I don't want to wash my hair. Dry shampoo and hats help to hide a heavy build up of oil in between washes!
- Try to avoid using too much heat. A little heat here and there, while using a heat protectant, isn't too damaging but if you're constantly blow drying, straightening, curling, etc, your hair can really take a beating. I often sleep in loose braids to give my hair heatless curls and texture.
- Don't brush or comb your hair when it's wet. I've found that it's best to just wait until my hair is completely dry to brush it or else I get a lot of breakage.
- Once every two weeks I like to smother my hair in coconut oil to give it a lot of natural moisture. I leave it on for a few hours while I do stuff around the house. If you do a coconut oil mask, or any type of oil mask, make sure to wash your hair out very well after. I've made the mistake of not washing out all the oil and have had VERY oily roots the next day.
I hope this helped you in some way & I hope you have a great (hair) day (:
